Review the business numbers used for calling and texting, their labels, routing, and lifecycle. Owning a number does not by itself establish SMS registration or a working call connection.

What you’ll see

The My Numbers page, where you select Buy Number to get your first number. No phone numbers are active yet.

Before you start

You need the appropriate phone-management permissions. Archiving, restoring, and releasing numbers are owner/administrator actions. The Demo Account has no active number, so an empty list is an unconfigured state, not evidence of working telephony.

Review and edit

  1. Open Settings → Phone → My Numbers. Use Show numbers to distinguish active, archived, and released records before concluding a number is missing.
  2. On an existing number, inspect Label, Purpose, Inbound Routing, and Status. A label edit uses its own Save action.
  3. Review Preferred destinations as caller-ID selection guidance. It does not authorize international calls; Calling Countries controls that permission separately.
  4. Open Inbound Routing to inspect Route calls to, user/group selection, and Ring timeout. Review the complete destination before saving. AI receptionist routing requires its own readiness and may introduce AI usage costs.
  5. Treat Set Default, AI switches, and lifecycle actions as real configuration changes. Archive blocks outbound calls while monthly number charges continue. Restore makes the number active but leaves outbound use off until enabled in Calling Rotation. Release permanently returns it to the carrier.

Check the result and recover

For an authorized change, reopen the number and check the exact setting; a save does not prove caller-ID display, audio, or SMS delivery. If lifecycle information is unavailable, resolve that error rather than guessing whether release is safe.

Buying a number is a separate purchase. Verify the final charge, recurrence and commitment with your workspace billing owner before purchase. No purchase or number change was made for these guides. Do not buy another number merely to work around an unresolved setup problem.
